World Music Café offers an outstanding combination of creativity, diversity and virtuosity.
This month feaatures the brilliant Duende Indalo quartet, Mozambique guitar legend Mahamudo Selimane, Taiwanese folk singer Zola Li, plus ‘Oz-raeli’ chef Nimrod Kazoom.
World Music Café is a social enterprise that delivers quality ‘Dinner & Show’ concert events showcasing an extraordinary array of Perth’s top multicultural artistic talent with a banquet meal of international cuisine prepared by chef Nimrod Kazoom and the World Music Café kitchen team.
Duende Indalo play an eclectic mix of world music, fusing flamenco, jazz, Middle Eastern and ambient soundscapes to create something wholly unique. Inspired by the likes of Dhafer Youssef, Antonio Forcione, and bass guitar mastery reminiscent of Jaco Pastorius, the instrumental group features the virtuoso musicianship of Roy Martinez on bass, Karl Hiller on guitars and Tony Borthwick on sax, flute and bansuri, and Pavan Hari on tabla, djembe and dilruba.
Originally from Mozambique, Mahamudo Selimane toured the world for many years with his groundbreaking East African group Eyuphuro. He played the Festival of Perth in the late 90’s and moved here several years later. He is a master of the Congolese rumba guitar style and has shared his African music expertise with many local musicians.
Zola Li is an award-winning artist from Taiwan. She has toured throughout Asia and Europe, before relocating to Australia. Appearing previously with her Sino Swing gypsy jazz trio and as our regular WMCMC, Zola returns with her interpretations of intimate Taiwanese folk songs.
Nimrod Kazoom is the master chef mentor for the World Music Cafe kitchen team and brings his wonderful fusion of tradition and innovation to the plentiful World Music Cafe dinner banquet. He trained and worked in Tel Aviv before relocating the Fremantle several years ago and has since built a massive following for his stunning artistic cuisine.
World Music Café is a collaborative celebration of Perth’s vibrant multi-dimensional culture, developed by Multicultural Futures with enterprise partners, United in Diversity, MosArts and Scanlon Foundation.
Given most WMC shows sell out, patrons are encouraged to book early to avoid disappointment.
