With the challenges the world has been facing over the last two years, many of us have been forced to rethink our way of life and re-evaluate what is important.
Many of us have had to recover from illness, isolation or financial hardship brought on by the Covid-19 virus. Environmental issues have also come to the fore, with people fighting against climate change and finding ways to help restore our planet. Recycling of materials and reducing waste is becoming more and more common, especially within the arts.
Our group of jewellers will explore the idea of reviving our connections with people and place, in order to find ways to regenerate our way of life, our environment and ourselves.
The Jewellers & Metalsmiths Group of Australia, WA (JMGA WA) is a volunteer non-profit organisation consisting of members from the local jewellers and metal/silver/goldsmiths community. This Western Australian group is part of the larger Australian JMGA community that also has branches within Victoria, New South Wales and Queensland. The members range from students and hobbyists to professional practicing jewellers.
The association has a 40+ year history dedicated to building a local creative community of jewellers and makers, as well as increasing the profile of jewellery and metalsmithing in Western Australia and across the country.
Every two years, the association holds a Biennial Members Exhibition, where all members have the opportunity to exhibit side-by-side with equal distinction, and sharing the wonderful work our members are capable of.
